Background of the Study
Birnin Gwari Local Government Area (LGA) in Kaduna State has been severely impacted by banditry, resulting in insecurity, economic disruption, and loss of lives. Development communication plays a critical role in addressing such challenges by raising awareness, fostering community resilience, and promoting dialogue between stakeholders. Communication tools such as community radio, participatory forums, and conflict-sensitive journalism have proven effective in similar contexts by countering misinformation and building trust (Yusuf et al., 2023). Development communication also facilitates collaborations between security agencies, local leaders, and residents, ensuring a coordinated approach to mitigating banditry. This study examines how development communication has been utilized to address banditry challenges in Birnin Gwari LGA, identifying successes and areas for improvement.
